Claws Mail on Mac OS X

At last !

It took me more time than expected, but I finally got the beast properly compiled and bundled for Mac OS X.

Go grab Claws Mail for Mac OS X here

Beware, it's a PPC only bundle for now. Universal bundle should follow in some weeks.

And of course the usual screenshot :

So now some explanation. In my previous post, I explained roughly how to compile Claws on Mac OS X. Since then, I have successfully embedded the whole application in a bundle, and made an image of it. More information are available on the developper page.

Next step : recompile using GTK+ natively on Mac OS X.

Hi Damien:

I really appreciate your effort -- I downloaded the .dmg you created, tried it out then wondered... where are the gpg and other plugins?
I went to your developer section and read the compilation sequence you used.

Ah... you choose to leave them all out, at least the ones I like and use within Yellow Dog Linux. Is there a reason the plugins (gpg, dillo-viewer, spamassassin, clamav, etc) aren't compiled within the OS X environment?

I've got the latest version of Claws running within the latest version of YDL. I got all the plugins I want functioning and I'm pretty much making YDL the primary OS I use now on my PowerPC laptop. And even though I know OS X is hopelessly bloated, I really miss what Claws mail does as you do when I'm not in YDL.

I appreciate learning what you can share on regarding these questions.

Thanks....

Well you are right, there is no plugin in the osX version. I just need to compile them and put them in the release, that's all :)

I appreciate all the hard work you've done Damien, but a few questions :-)

Is there any .dmg for the latest version of Claws compiled for ppc?

Secondly, I've got your compile running on my PowerMac G4 and it seems to have a much "clunkier" interface that when running under KDE on my Kubuntu box. Any chance of an Aqua interface or is that merely a case of installing a them from the Claws website?

Hi,

you can get something nice looking like that screenshot :

by tweaking the GTK theme inside the claws mail package. I can give you precise directions if you need

Hi,

Appreciate your efforts in putting together claws-mail for OS X.

Is there any plans of having 3.x version anytime soon?
